How we check tradespeople
We'd rather tell you exactly what we've checked than use words like "vetted" or "approved". Every badge on a profile names one specific check and the date we did it.
What each badge means
Insurance seen: we've seen a public liability insurance certificate in the business's name that was in date when we checked. We show the expiry date, and the badge disappears when it expires.
Gas Safe, NICEIC or NAPIT checked: we've matched the registration number on the official register on the date shown. For any gas work, you can also check the engineer's card yourself on the Gas Safe Register.
ID checked: we've matched photo ID to the person who runs the account.
What our checks don't mean
A badge shows what we saw on a particular date. It isn't a guarantee of the quality of work, and MyLocalHands isn't a party to the agreement between you and the tradesperson. Always get a written quote, agree what's included, and never pay the full amount up front for large jobs.
Reviews
Only a homeowner who posted a job on MyLocalHands can review the tradesperson who contacted them about it, and only once per job. Tradespeople can reply but can't remove reviews. We remove reviews only if they break our rules (for example, abusive language or personal details), never because they're negative.
Something wrong?
If anything on a profile looks wrong, please report it. We review every report.
